Geodesic dome/shelter
- Cardboard, varnish, tape, staples.
- 120" x 120" x 60"
This project stemmed from my obsession with geodesics, Buckminster Fuller, and 60s/70s utopianism. Really, it's just a simple, somewhat waterproof cardboard dome, 10 feet in diameter, with an opening (not shown) for crawling inside. Installed smack dab in the middle of Carnegie Mellon's campus, it was an interesting experiment in creating a self-defined space within the public sphere.
Geodesic domes are amazingly flexible and strong, and can be erected on a very short timeframe. They are logical, scalable, economical, and elegant. A perfect encapsulation of the qualities I would like all of my creations to possess.
